Preparing for Population Aging: Developing Efficient Health Care System for the Elderly

      On 21- 22 December 2017, the School of Medicine held an annual meeting entitled “Adapting the Thai Health Care System to deal with an Aging Population” to provide a venue for MFU students, doctors, dentists, nurses, the health science profession from MFU hospital and from other hospitals in Chiang Rai province to broaden their knowledge, experience and skills in health care services. 

      MFU President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanchai Sirichana stated in the opening ceremony that this conference served as the stage for experts in each field of health science from Thailand and aboard to exchange knowledge and widen their perspectives. In addition, this forum sought to establish the network of the health care services among the Greater Mekong Subregion countries. The possible cooperation will enhance the development of efficient health care system for the elderly.

      In addition, there were a series of interesting topics including the aging society in Thailand and health policy, common health problems in the elderly, the role of alternative medicine in elderly health care, elderly health care community in Chiang Rai province.

      Moreover, the meeting also brought in speakers from Myanmar, China, Myanmar, Laos, Japan and Singapore to share their experience on the difference of health care system for the elderly among countries in the Mekong Subregion and learning health care for the elderly from aging countries.
