On 21 – 29 July 2024, Dr. Thanikun Chantra, Dean of the School of Social Innovation, and Dr. Pradit Chinudomsub, Manager and Research Associate of Area-based-Social Innovation Research Center (Ab-SIRC), led a team in organising the Train the Trainers: Community-Based Tourism under the BCG Economy Model workshop.
Supported by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), the project aimed to enhance understanding and share knowledge of community-based tourism under the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model among 18 participants from government and private sectors in Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos. Mae Fah Luang University anticipates that this project will positively impact Thailand’s image, strengthen relationship, and enhance long-standing cooperation with neighbouring countries.
During the workshop, participants visited Rai Ruen Rom Organic Farm and Ban Tha Khan Thong Homestay to learn about sustainable and environmentally friendly community-based tourism. Upon completing the workshop, participants expressed satisfaction with the activities and their experience in Chiang Rai province. By applying the acquired knowledge, participants are expected to contribute to their countries’ development in community-based tourism and sustainable economies.
The exchange of knowledge and experiences in community-based tourism and the development of sustainable economic models represents a significant step towards enhancing cooperation and sustainable development in the Southeast Asia. Strengthening international cooperation and friendship is crucial for sustainable progress, and this training project exemplified the practical application of these principles.
