Mr. Kaung Htet Wai, a fourth-year Public Health student, won first place in the undergraduate category for his research titled “Trends and Determinants of Tuberculosis (TB) Incidence in Myanmar from 2010–2022” at the 10th Annual APRU Global Health Student Poster Competition 2024.
This research highlights the trends of TB incidence through the government transition and post-military coup from 2010-2022, as well as the socioeconomic factors contributing to TB incidence.
Students from 19 universities in 12 economies (Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and United Arab Emirates) participated in the competition. There were two categories: undergraduate and graduate. Three finalists were selected in each category.
This competition was part of the 17th Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Global Health Conference 2024, held from 4 – 6 November 2024, at Chulalongkorn University. The conference was co-hosted by the School of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
This year’s conference theme was “Harmonizing Human and Planetary Health Through Innovation, AI, and Digital Transformation”, reflecting a commitment to advancing interdisciplinary approaches to improve health outcomes for both people and the planet. The conference aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare and public health professionals, technologists, global health practitioners, and humanities scholars.
The APRU is a network of leading research universities in the Pacific Rim region, dedicated to fostering collaboration in education, research, and innovation. The annual APRU Global Health Conference brought together experts from various fields to address pressing global health challenges and explore innovative solutions leveraging AI and digital technologies for human and planetary health.
