On 22-23 March 2025, Dr. Suebsakun Kidnukorn, lecturer at the School of Social Innovation, led 20 Thai and international students in creating firebreaks in the Ban Hin Lad Nai community, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai.
This volunteer activity, organised by the Global Relations Division in collaboration with the School of Social Innovation and the Thai Volunteer Service, aimed to raise awareness and enhance understanding of local environmental issues through wildfire prevention activities within the community.
Firebreaks are essential tools for preventing the spread of wildfires. They are areas where vegetation is removed or modified to create a barrier that stops or slows a fire’s progress. This activity broadened knowledge of forest conservation and environmental protection while fostering collaboration between Thai and international students. Participants worked together in a culturally diverse environment, which helped develop teamwork skills and the ability to solve complex challenges.
The activity also provided students with hands-on learning opportunities within the community, strengthening their understanding of environmental issues and promoting sustainable natural resource conservation.
