On 14 July 2025, the School of Science, Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), successfully hosted the international academic conference, “The Graduate Symposium 2025: Better Future Through Interdisciplinary Science.” Prof. Dr.Surat Laphookhieo, Dean of the School of Science presided over the event. It took place at E4 Building, with virtual access via Zoom. The symposium served as a vital platform for graduate students to present their research and engage in meaningful knowledge exchange with leading scientists from around the world.

The symposium featured a wide range of research presentations by master’s and doctoral students in interdisciplinary science fields such as applied chemistry, biological science, materials science, and environmental technology. Participants had the unique opportunity to learn from keynote speakers from Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences (China) and top universities from China, Cyprus, Japan, and Malaysia.

Distinguished Keynote Presentations Included:
•    Prof. Dr. Gen Zou (China): Advances and Innovative Applications in Fungal Synthetic Biology
•    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lim Teck Hock (Malaysia): New Fe304/In (OH) 3 Nanocomposite for Photocatalytic Degradation of Medical Wastes
•    Asst. Prof. Dr. Yugo Kitazawa (Japan): Phyllogen: A Unique Bacterial Protein that Turns Flowers to Leaves
•    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eleni Gentekaki (Cyprus): Molecular Epidemiology of Cryptosporidium in Dairy Cows in Cyprus
•    Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nan Meng (China): Tiny Pores, Big Impact: Porous Organic Polymers for Energy and Environment
•    Dr. Dimitris Stratoulias: Earth Observation: An Inherently Interdisciplinary Science

In addition to keynote talks, more than 15 student presentations, in both oral and flash formats, highlighted innovative topics such as biomaterials and green packaging, point-of-care device, environmental innovation, and plant-derived anticancer extracts. This symposium reflects MFU’s commitment to fostering sustainable scientific innovation and strengthening academic collaboration across disciplines and borders. It also underscores the university’s dedication to building a better future through interdisciplinary science.
