On 5 November 2025, the International Student Club, the Myanmar Students’ Association, and the Buddhist Club jointly organised the Loy Krathong and Tazaungdaing celebration at the Mekong Basin Civilization Museum.
Thai and international students enjoyed various activities together, including making kratongs, lighting sparklers, making sky lanterns, eating traditional Mezali flower salad and joining quizzes on Tazaungdaing and Loy Krathong for fun and surprises.
Loy Krathong is a festival celebrated by the Thai people on the full moon night of the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar. Tazaungdaing Festival, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a vibrant and meaningful celebration in Myanmar. It is held on the full moon day of Tazaungmon, the eighth month of the Burmese calendar, usually in November. The festival marks the end of the rainy season and has both religious and cultural significance.
This activity allowed students to celebrate traditional festivals while appreciating shared cultures of the region contributing to developing cross-cultural awareness, a foundational skill for global citizenship, enabling them to understand, respect, and effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
