On 12 January 2026, a delegation from the Youth Welfare and Education Office under His Majesty’s Secretariat, Bhutan, led by Ms. Choing Dolma, Head of Youth Welfare and Education Office, visited Mae Fah Luang University to meet Bhutanese scholarship students and university representatives.
The MFU delegation was led by Asst. Prof. Dr.Chompunut Sopajaree, Dean of the School of Nursing, and Ms. Wannapha Thippayasak, Head of the Global Relations Division, who welcomed the delegation and engage in discussions on potential areas for further collaboration.
MFU has been offering scholarships to Bhutanese students since 2012. To date, 27 scholarships have been awarded, with 10 students currently enrolled in the nursing programme. During the meeting, the School of Nursing presented a comprehensive report highlighting both academic and extracurricular activities designed to develop students’ essential soft skills, contributing to the success of Bhutanese scholarship recipients including both alumni and current students. Graduates of the programme are highly competitive and have frequently achieved top results in the Bhutan civil service examinations upon their return.
In addition to the scholarship programme, both parties expressed strong interest in expanding future collaborations, particularly through exchange programmes. Officials from the Youth Welfare and Education Office indicated their willingness to review funding proposals aimed at providing students with international experience, which would help address the limited number of specialized nurses in Bhutan.
The visit marked another important milestone in the long-standing cooperation between MFU and Bhutan, underscoring a shared commitment to developing skilled healthcare professionals through education, international exposure, and continued partnership.
