Strengthening Regional Futures: Australian Embassy and MFU Host Australia Awards Mekong–Australia Partnership (AA-MAP) Information Session

On 18 February 2026, the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, in collaboration with the Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit (MAPSU) and the Global Relations Division, Mae Fah Luang University, (MFU) organsed an information session on the Australia Awards Mekong–Australia Partnership (AA-MAP) programme at Mae Fah Luang University.

The session was presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont, Vice President of Mae Fah Luang University, together with Ms. Nikki Wright, First Secretary (Development), Australian Embassy in Bangkok.  Participants included representatives from the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, the Mekong-Australia Partnership Support Unit, as well as MFU faculty members, staff, students, and members of the publc.

The programme featured an AA-MAP Scholarships Intake 2027 information presentation, delivered by Ms. Pornpitcha Singhadecho, Award Manager, who provided details on scholarship benefits, eligibility criteria, and application procedures. The event also included an alumni experience sharing session by Mr. Chatchawan Saewor, an alumnus from the 2023 intake (Master of Education, La Trobe University) , who shared insights into academic life and living in Australia. A Q&A session followed, allowing participants to seek advice on the application process, interview preparation, and student life in Australia.

Australia Awards Scholarships, funded by the Australian Government’s Mekong-Australia Partnership (MAP), aim to support a resilient and inclusive Mekong subregion through joint solutions to shared and transboundary challenges. The programme offers 30 fully-funded postgraduate scholarships in priority areas including water security, climate resilience, combatting transnational crime, economic resilience and subregional integration, as well as gender equality, disability equity and social inclusion. Of these, 10 scholarships are allocated for Thai citizens, while five scholarships each are available for citizens of Cambodian, Laotian, Vietnamese, and Myanmar. 

This session provided a valuable opportunity for MFU staff, students and Chiang Rai residents to gain comprehensive information about the AA-MAP scholarship. It also reflected MFU’s commitment to expanding eductional opportunities through international partnerships and contributing to the well-being and sustainable development of the Greater Mekong Subregion.
