Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), through the Center for Academic Services, in collaboration with Tha Sud Sub-district Municipality–one of the University’s designated community engagement areas– organised the "Tha Sud Waste Bank Social Return on Investment (SROI) Assessment" on 20 February 2026 at General Sampao Choosri Building (E4), MFU.
The evaluation marked the conclusion of a broader Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and SROI study of the local waste bank project in Villages 8 and 11 of Tha Sud Sub-district. This initiative is implemented under MFU’s fifth Development Plan, Strategy 3, which advances the integration of academic expertise with local resources to generate economic, social, and cultural value for communities in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).
The event was presided over by Mr. Somsak Sriburi, Mayor of Tha Sud Sub-district, alongside the municipal executive team and local public health working groups who have been directly involved in the project. Serving as key stakeholders of the completed project, they engaged in dialogue with MFU faculty members—acting as social impact evaluators—to review key findings, including measurable outputs, tangible outcomes, and longer-term community impacts.
The discussion provided a data-informed perspective on how the waste bank has contributed not only to systematic waste management, but also to household income generation, environmental awareness, and stronger civic participation at the community level.
Mr. Somsak Sriburi highlighted the significance of the project:
“The Waste Bank has become an important mechanism within our community. Beyond organised waste management, it creates multi-dimensional value across the environment, economy, and community strength. The SROI assessment is a practical tool that allows us to visualize this 'value' clearly and to use this evidence to guide future development. Today’s discussion builds shared understanding and supports the continued growth of a resilient and sustainable waste bank in Tha Sud.”
