Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) is greatly honoured to welcome Dr. Harvey Charles—Professor of Education and Senior Affiliate at Gateway International Group and a globally renowned leader in international higher education—as a Fulbright Specialist under the Fulbright Specialist Programme.
The Fulbright Specialist Programme, part of the larger Fulbright Programme, deploys highly qualified American academics and professionals to share their expertise and collaborate intensively with host institutions, and address real-world challenges in areas of strategic interest.
Dr. Charles is an experienced leader of international programmes in higher education and a scholar in the field of international education. As a co-editor, he has published two significant volumes in the field: Leading Internationalization: A Handbook for International Education (Stylus, 2018), and the Handbook of International Higher Education (Stylus, 2022). Dr. Charles has dedicated his entire career to higher education as a senior administrator and scholar. Holding degrees in business administration and counselling, he completed his doctoral work in higher education and student affairs, with an emphasis in international education, at The Ohio State University in 1991. He consults widely with colleges and universities on advancing internationalization, serves on several national and international boards, and delivers keynote addresses on international education issues around the world.
During his time at MFU, Dr. Charles will work closely with the Student Development Affairs Division (SDAD) from 2 April – 8 May 2026. He will provide recommendation for establishing a university-level global citizenship framework and co-develop a strategic plan and processes to integrate global citizenship into student development projects. Furthermore, he will build capacity through workshops for SDAD staff and student leaders, empowering them to sustainably lead and drive global citizenship initiatives forward.
With his extensive expertise and experience, the University believes Dr. Charles will be a driving force in transforming MFU’s efforts from foundational internationalisation to lasting global impact.
