On 5 April 2026, delegates from Mae Fah Luang University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr.Matchima Naradisorn, President, and Asst. Prof. Dr.Romyen Kosaikanont, Vice President, attended the Lao New Year celebrations hosted by the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Bangkok.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials and leaders from both nations, including H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnviraku, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand; H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand; H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR; and H.E. Mr. Sisavath Inphachanh, Ambassador of the Lao PDR to Thailand, alongside diplomatic representatives and distinguished guests.
Mae Fah Luang University maintains a profound and enduring partnership with the Lao PDR through extensive academic collaborations and community services. In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR, MFU recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Souphanouvong University (SU). This agreement underscores a shared commitment to fostering academic excellence and strengthening the friendship between the two countries across various disciplines.
Furthermore, MFU continues to support human resource development by providing scholarships for Lao students to pursue higher education at the university. In term of good health and well-being, MFU has actively engaged in providing specialised short-term training for healthcare personnel from the northern regions of the Lao PDR; conducting health screening services for Lao residents; and establishing a health and education cooperation network between MFU and partners in Northern Laos.
MFU’s participation in this celebration reaffirms the university’s commitment to honouring the deep-rooted cultural ties and strategic partnership between Thailand and the Lao PDR, ensuring a sustainable future through regional cooperation.
