MFU's iMatS Researchers Win International Awards at ITEX 2026 in Malaysia

Assoc. Prof. Dr.Nattakan Soykeabkaew and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nattaya Tawichai, researchers from the Center of Innovative Materials for Sustainability (iMatS), School of Science, Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), have won three prestigious awards at the 37th International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition" (ITEX 2026). Held in Malaysia from 18 to 20 May 2026, ITEX is an annual exhibition featuring groundbreaking inventions, technologies, and products from Asia and beyond, aimed at securing investment, manufacturing opportunities, and commercialization partnership. 

With their award-winning innovation titled, "From Waste to Comfort: All-Cellulose Thermal and Acoustic Insulation Panels from Recycled Textiles", the MFU research team secured
- International Special Award for BEST GREEN INVENTION 2026     
- ITEX 2026 GOLD MEDAL
- NRCT SPECIAL AWARD (presented by the National Research Council of Thailand)

This innovation leverages advanced knowledge in materials science and the Circular Economy principle to transform used textiles into thermal insulation and sound-absorbing panels. The process converts discarded textiles into eco-friendly, all-cellulose composite materials, effectively reducing textile waste and adding value to discarded materials through an innovative research process.

This achievement not only brings well-deserved international recognition to the university but also reflects MFU’s continuous dedication to promoting well-being and a sustainable future through interdisciplinary research and sustainability-driven innovation. By advancing industrial waste reduction and developing green alternative materials, this innovation marks another significant milestone for Thai research. It serves as a powerful demonstration that "sustainability" is no longer merely an abstract concept, but a tangible reality capable of creating a profound, positive impact on the world.
