MFU Empowers International Freshmen Through Immersive ‘Thai Cultural Workshop 2026’

Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) led by the Global Relations Division (GRD) in collaboration with the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Agro-Industry, hosted the “Thai Cultural Workshop 2026: Experience Thailand Beyond the Classroom” on 8 August 2026, at E3 Building. 

Held as part of MFU’s welcome series for the 2026 academic year, the vibrant workshop was thoughtfully designed to provide a dynamic platform for students to seamlessly adapt to their new social environment, cultivate cross-cultural understanding through hands-on participation, and take their first steps toward becoming well-rounded global citizens.

Over 120 first-year students from various countries enthusiastically participated in the event. They were warmly guided by Thai student volunteers from MFU Buddy Programme and senior students from the International Student Club, who worked alongside GRD staff to facilitate an engaging and inclusive atmosphere. 

To maximise the learning experience, participants were divided into six groups and rotated through a series of interactive, cultural stations:

• 'Do's and Don'ts in Thailand' – An insightful guide to Thai etiquette and social norms.
• Thai Coconut Pancakes – A delicious, hands-on session making Khanom Krok
• Thai Flower Garland – The delicate art of traditional floral weaving
• Traditional Thai Dance – An introduction to Thai performing arts
• Papaya Salad – A flavourful experience crafting authentic 'Som Tam' 
• Lanna Handicrafts – The beautiful Northern tradition of Lanna paper cutting' Tung Sai Moo'

Through these immersive stations, international students not only experienced the richness of Thai heritage firsthand but also proudly shared their own cultures with peers from diverse backgrounds. Ultimately, these vibrant exchanges fostered meaningful friendships and reinforced the university’s unwavering commitment to promoting Internationalisation at Home (IaH).
