MFU School of Agro-Industry Launches 2026 International Short Course Programme on Sustainable Food Systems and Thai Culture

Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), through its School of Agro-Industry and the Center for Academic Services, successfully hosted the 3rd International Short Course Programme, titled "Sustainable Food Systems & Cultural Discovery Programme," from 3 – 13 August 2026.  The 14-day hybrid initiative welcomed 27 students from Chiba University and Utsunomiya University, Japan combining four days of online learning with ten days of immersive onsite activities across Chiang Rai and Phayao provinces. 

Led by project head Asst. Prof. Dr. Thamarath Pranamornkith, a faculty member at the School of Agro-Industry, the programme aimed to advance participants’ knowledge and skills in Thai agricultural science and food technology, deepen academic ties with international partner institutions, and cultivate future-ready talent. 

The hands-on curriculum featured an MFU campus tour alongside practical workshops covering herbal healthcare products, traditional Thai massage, coffee processing, tea processing and tasting on Doi Mae Salong, craft brewing, rice-based product development, and ceramic arts.

Beyond the classroom and laboratory, participants visited prominent cultural landmarks in Chiang Rai and Phayao such as Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), Huenpatima Contemporary Art Museum, Wat Tilok Aram and Kwan Phayao. These cultural excursions offered students direct exposure to Northern Thailand’s vibrant art, language, traditions, and local ways of life through immersive cultural exchange.

On the final day, participants presented oral reports and video summaries reflecting on their learning journey before completing the programme evaluation. The event concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony, a group photo session, and a farewell dinner featuring student performances alongside shared reflections from the Dean, organisers, and participants.

Now in its third consecutive year, this short course programme continues to strengthen international friendships and foster meaningful cross-cultural learning. By providing high-impact educational exchanges in agriculture and food science, MFU reinforces its position as a leading regional hub for international academic cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).
