On 13 May 2019, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening ceremony of the 4th "Rak Pah Nan" Seminar which was jointly organized by Mae Fah Luang University, the Office of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Projects, the Royal Thai Army, Chulalongkorn University and Nan Province at Chulalongkorn University’s Center of Learning Network for the Region (CLNR) in Nan Province.
Mae Fah Luang University, led by the project advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanchai Sirichana, Acting President of Mae Fah Luang University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri and MFU executives, presented the exhibitions of “Bring back a forest, bring life back to Nan” project demonstrating MFU’s research on forest depletion and restoration in region.
The exhibition also presented activities of the project for the past two years in promoting a sense of care and responsibility for nature and the environment in young generations. Furthermore, MFU introduced alternative careers for people in Nan province; for example, the university offered scholarships for seven students to study in the Certificate Programme for Practical Nursing (1 year). Additionally, the university encouraged local people to plant the local herbal plants Turmeric and Zingiber cassumunar and transform them into high-quality goods. The herbal plantation was the sustainable alternative to monoculture since it uses less space but will be more profitable.
