MFU School of Science Hosts Science Symposium 2026 to Expand International Research Networks

On 29 August 2026, the School of Science at Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) hosted the international academic conference, "Science Symposium 2026: Bridging Disciplines for Global Research Excellence" at Pradoo Daeng Meeting Room, General Sampao Choosri Building (E4). Prof. Dr. Surat Laphookhieo, Dean of the School of Science, presided over the opening ceremony. The event aimed to exchange advanced scientific knowledge with partner institutions, notably Taylor's University and Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

The symposium is part of an ongoing academic partnership that rotates host institutions annually. This year, the School of Science expanded the scope of collaboration by partnering with the MFU School of Medicine.

The event featured keynote presentations from international experts covering medical innovation, forensic science and advanced botany:

• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lee Wei Lim (Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University) —  "Deep Brain Stimulation: From Antidepressant to Memory Enhancement"
• Dr. Tor Yin Sim (Taylor's University) — "Advancing Precision Immuno-Oncology in NSCLC: From Immune Checkpoint Biomarkers to Regional Cancer Research Networks"
• Dr. Thinnapong Wongpakdee, lecturer of the School of Sciene (Mae Fah Luang University) — "Sustainable and Low-Cost Materials for Chemical Sensing Platforms in Forensic Applications"
• Prof. Dr. Kenji Matsui (Yamaguchi University) — "Why Do Plants Smell Green? Plant Strategies for Enhancing Fitness"
• Assoc. Professor Dr. Siraprapa Mahanil, lecturer in Bioscience specialising in plant breeding and molecular genetics (Mae Fah Luang University) — "Screening, Discovery and Application of Natural Products from Endophytic Fungi"

Beyond the keynote sessions, the symposium provided a platform for students from the participating institutions to present their research through both oral and poster presentations, with awards presented for top contributions.

The symposium reflected the the School of Science’s commitment to driving interdisciplinary research and building robust regional networks for researchers. To sustain this collaborative momentum, MFU will continue working closely with partner institutions and maintain the rotational hosting arrangement in the coming years.
