MFU and Suzhou University of Science and Technology Forge Partnership for Sustainable Environmental Solutions
Categories: SDG06 SDG17From 20 to 24 October 2026, a delegation from Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) visited the People’s Republic of China to strengthen academic collaboration, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Suzhou University of Science and Technology (SUST). The MFU delegation was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Matchima Naradisorn, President, together with Prof. Dr. Sujiitra Wongkasemjit, Vice President; Asst. Prof. Dr. Wipob Suthana, Dean of the School of Health Science; and faculty members from the School of Health Science. This partnership aims to promote cooperation in education, research, and innovation, while facilitating the practical application of knowledge and technologies to address environmental challenges and local development needs.
Under the MOU, a central focus is the development of joint research initiatives, particularly in environmental management and water pollution control in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. As a vital region for economic and social development and public well-being, Chiang Rai provides an important context for collaborative research and innovation. The partnership will create opportunities for researchers and academics from both institutions to exchange knowledge, share research experience, and develop evidence-based approaches to environmental problem-solving that directly support sustainable regional development.
Another important area of collaboration is the exploration and application of SUST’s advanced environmental technologies, specifically in wastewater treatment and water pollution monitoring. The two universities will assess the suitability and feasibility of adapting these technologies to the environmental conditions and needs of Chiang Rai and its relevant surrounding areas. This initiative bridges academic theory and practical environmental management by evaluating technological performance, local applicability, and opportunities for sustainable implementation.
Additionally, both universities will promote the exchange of academic staff and researchers, including hosting visiting professors. These activities are designed to facilitate seamless knowledge transfer, strengthen the professional capabilities of academic personnel, expand international research networks, and support the development of collaborative research initiatives. Such cross-border cooperation will enhance institutional research capacity and generate new opportunities to address environmental challenges on both a local and global scale.
The collaboration between Mae Fah Luang University and Suzhou University of Science and Technology marks a significant step toward integrating research, technology, and innovation into regional development. By focusing on the specific environmental and pollution challenges facing Chiang Rai Province, the partnership will strengthen human resource development, facilitate knowledge exchange, and foster closer collaboration between academia and the private sector. These efforts seek to enhance the role of universities in generating knowledge and innovation that can be translated into practical solutions and deliver sustainable benefits to society.
Ultimately, MFU remains committed to strengthening academic partnerships with leading international institutions to enhance its educational and research capabilities and promote the practical application of knowledge and innovation to address environmental challenges and improve people's quality of life. Through international collaboration, MFU aims to contribute to sustainable development by bridging academic excellence and practical solutions that benefit local communities and society as a whole.
