Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), through the School of Sinology, held the 10th Sino Show on 27 October 2026 at the the Queen Sirikit 72nd Jubilee Sport Arena (Indoor Stadium). The event featured a Chinese stage play titled “Destiny’s Decree” 《天命之章》, designed to promote experiential learning, the integration of classroom knowledge, teamwork, and cross-cultural competence to prepare students to be global citizens.

The opening ceremony included remarks from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darunee Wattanasiriwech, Vice president of MFU; Dr.Teeraparp Predeepoch, Dean of the School of Sinology; and Ms. Kirana Mukda, a fourth-year student from the School of Sinology and Head of the Sino Show 2026 Student Committee. More than 800 MFU executives, staff, students, and members of the general public attended the event.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darunee Wattanasiriwech stated, “I would like to express appreciation to the faculty, staff, and students of the School of Sinology for devoting their time, energy, and hearts to carrying on and creating such an engaging event, now in its 10th consecutive year. It is an event that many people look forward to and that has been warmly received year after year. As a university executive, I am deeply proud to see students apply what they have learned in the classroom through performances full of inspiration. These performances not only reflect their academic abilities but also help develop essential skills for life and future careers, including teamwork, creativity, and cross-cultural communication, as well as fostering good relationships among the students themselves and with stakeholders both within and outside the university. I hope to see this tradition continue in the years ahead.”

Describing the production, Ms. Kirana Mukda explained, “ ‘Destiny’s Decree’ tells the story of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, who believes his supreme strength allows him to defy heaven. However, after being defeated by the destiny that heaven has decreed, he must descend to the human world as “Sun Xiu.” This journey raises not only the question of why he was sent down, but also leads to a much deeper search for answers: why those with power cannot determine the fate of others, and why certain things must still happen no matter how many times one tries to change them. Amid life in the human world, Sun Xiu gradually discovers certain truths that cannot be overcome by his own power, and learns that the hardest thing may not be changing fate, but understanding why fate must be as it is.

In addition to the character-driven performance, the event also featured Chinese cultural performances, such as the dragon dance, the lion dance, and Chinese folk dance. Altogether, the event not only helped strengthen students’ understanding of Chinese language and culture, in line with the teaching of the School of Sinology’ four programmes: Chinese Language and Culture, Business Chinese, Chinese Studies, and Teaching Chinese Language, but also encourage students to connect that knowledge to a broader understanding of the world, which is essential for being a global citizen.
