MFU Celebrates the Confucius Institute Day: Emphasizing the Role of Center for Learning Chinese Language and Culture

       The Sirindthorn Chinese Language and Culture Centre, the Confucius Institute at MFU and Xiamen University cooperated in celebrating the Confucius Institute Day on 1 October 2017 at the Sirindthorn Chinese Language and Culture Centre.

       The celebration was held to commemorate the establishment of the Confucius Institute and its active role in promoting Chinese language and culture in Thailand. There were various activities provided for students to showcase their Chinese skills including a Chinese drawing competition, Chinese calligraphy, and a speech contest. Also, there were special traditional music performances from the Music Art Troupe of Kunming Conservatory Performances which were prepared for the general public and for students of the Chinese language.

       On the occasion of the Confucius Institute Day celebration, the opening ceremony for the Alumni Association of the Confucius Institute at MFU was held. There were many distinguished participants which included MFU President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanchai Sirichana; Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri; Acting Dean of the School of Sinology and Acting Director of the Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Centre Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kanjana Watanasuntorn; Director of the Confucius Institute, Assoc. Prof. Huang Jianjun; the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Chiang Mai Mr. Ren Yisheng;  Deputy Secretary of  Party Committee of Xiamen University Mr. Lai Hongkai; President of Thai Alumni Association of China’s Universities Ms. Luo Tieying; Permanent Honorary President of the Xiamen University Thailand Alumni Association Mr. Chen Hantao and President of the Xiamen University Thailand Alumni Association Mr. Chen Wuqing. Moreover, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (HANBAN) also sent a congratulatory letter, extending warm congratulations on the opening of the alumni association.

       Overall, it is hoped that the celebration of the Confucius Institute Day could provide an opportunity for educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation between Thailand and China as well as enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.
