MFU Develops Value-Added Herbal Products to propel the Country towards Thailand 4.0

Categories: ข่าวภาษาอังกฤษ

On 17 October, MFU President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanchai Sirichana and executives visited the Government House to meet the Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Deputy Prime Minister and the Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan. On this occasion, MFU executives offered 11,000 sets of eleven herbal products to the Royal Thai Armed Forces. Moreover, MFU also gave natural products originating from MFU’s research, including 50 sets of Chao Khun Van herbal products, 50 sets of Jasmine rice facial cream, and 50 sets of hair care products to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet as a token of MFU’s appreciation to the government for its policy supporting the development of Thai herbal products and medicine.

The Prime Minister remarked “MFU does these projects for real, not just for show and agriculturists benefit from these value added products”.

The herbal products project was initiated following the Prime Minister’s visit to the MFU Herb Garden after he had a meeting on 28 November 2016 with the Central Joint Government-Private Sector Committee and the regional committee for the Upper Northern Province cluster.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut had set the policy for MFU to propel the Chiang Rai Herbal City Project forward. The purpose of this project was to promote the herb-processing industry in Chiang Rai in keeping with the government’s policy to systematically and sustainably enhance the competitive capacity of Thai herbal industry. For this project, Mae Fah Luang University has played a significant role in supporting the research, transforming herbal plants into high-quality goods and training Thai Tradition medical professionals to use these herbs effectively.

In 2016, the MFU Herbal Medicine Laboratory was established in compliance with the PIC/S GMP standard. It is hoped that this laboratory will become a model for others on developing human resources, transforming research results into innovative products, adding value to Thai herbal products, and providing hands-on experience for Applied Thai Traditional Medicine students.

With the strong intention to increase the value of Thai herbal products with innovations and expand them to the world market, MFU developed its herbal products based on the concept of ‘the power of nature’ under the brand name Chao Khun Van.

The highlight ingredient of Chao Khun Van’s products is Ma Kwaen (Zanthoxylum limonella) which is widely distributed in the northern part of Thailand. Local people commonly use Ma Kwaen fruits and seeds for flavoring foods because of its spicy hot taste and fragrant scents. Ma Kwean is also one of the medicinal plants used in Thai traditional medicine thanks to its stimulation effect on reducing muscle strains as well as its anti-inflammatory properties.

With its specific features, Ma Kwean extract is used in massage oil for muscle pain. For the best results, people with aches or pains should constantly apply the oil on sore muscles or areas prone to tension without washing it off

Another natural product of MFU is ‘Lanadene Jasmine Rice Age Defying Facial Cream’ which was developed from the research on Jasmine rice panicle extract. Studies have found that Jasmine rice panicle extract contains not only high levels of phenolics which have cutaneous benefits as the basis for skin aging treatments but also high antioxidant activities.

In addition, the Lanadene Jasmine Rice Age Defying Facial Cream is dermatologically tested, and clinically proven to be suitable for sensitive skin and does not cause allergies or skin irritation. This product obviously helps diminish dark spots, wrinkles and dull skin with dramatic results in just four weeks. Additionally, the exclusive helps increase skin firmness and smoothness in just one week. Most customers have expressed satisfaction with the product’s scent, color, and moisturizing and fast absorbing properties.

Last but not least, ‘Number 333: Hair care products’ are the natural products developed from Sangyod rice extract for stimulating hair growth and reducing hair loss. It has been tested on, and proven to give fast results with hair regrowth in one month. It also helps to lessen hair fall and increase thickness after three months. Moreover, the Number 333 hair care product has received many international awards as certifications of its quality.
