The Opening Ceremony of MFU Cosmetic Plot Plant

    On 19 December 2022, Prof. Dr.Sirirurg Songsivilai, M.D., the Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri, President of Mae Fah Luang University presided over the opening ceremony of MFU Cosmetic Plot Plant at S6 Building, Mae Fah Luang University. 

     The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) supported a budget of 12 million baht for building this Cosmetic Plot Plant with an aim to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) produce innovative beauty and cosmetic products complying with the international standard. Moreover, MFU received the additional budget of 15 million baht from MHESI for establishing the Cosmetic Maker Space and Clinical LAB to provide a one-stop service covering research and development as well as manufacturing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

     Prof. Dr.Sirirurg Songsivilai, M.D. stated that MFU is one of the universities that are able to transforms data and research results into new products complying with the government’s policy. This cosmetic plot plant will be Thailand’s key tool for building confidence in business especially small and medium-sized enterprises and supporting the economic growth. Since 1997, cosmetic industry has been continuing to grow. Moreover, the Northern part of Thailand is a highland region rich in natural resources and raw materials for cosmetic products. Therefore, the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation expects that cosmetic entrepreneurs and manufacturers will make the most use of the MFU Cosmetic Plot Plant in developing products and advancing economic growth.

     Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chayaporn Wattanasiri added that MFU established the School of Cosmetic Science which is the first educational institution that offers cosmetic science and beauty technology programmes in Thailand since 2005. This cosmetic plot plant will help community enterprise and farmers advance and develop their product prototypes. Currently,  MFU cosmetic plot plant cooperates with local community to produce products made from various natural ingredients such as red rice, pineapple, tea, coffee, and paper mulberry.
