On 19 - 22 November 2024, Ms. Maya Dania, a lecturer at the School of Social Innovation, and Ms. Reni Juwitasari, a researcher at the Asian Research Center for International Development (ARCID), School of Social Innovation, represented Mae Fah Luang University at the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) conference, hosted by Universitas Airlangga in Surabaya, Indonesia.
The Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) is a regional organisation that aims to promote cooperation and collaboration among higher education institutions in Southeast Asia. Founded in 1956, ASAIHL works to enhance the quality of higher education in the region and to facilitate academic exchanges, research collaboration, and the sharing of knowledge among universities and institutions of higher learning. Mae Fah Luang University is an ASAIHL member.
This year’s conference theme, “University’s Role in Advancing Climate Crisis Reduction,” provided a critical platform for academia to address one of the most pressing global challenges. Contributing to this significant dialogue, Ms. Maya Dania presented her research titled “Curriculum Integration of Climate Crisis Topics at Mae Fah Luang University: Findings from Classroom Research.” Meanwhile, Ms. Reni Juwitasari shared her research, “Strengthening School and Community Resilience: University Roles in Climate Crisis Management.”
Through their active participation, both representatives gained valuable insights into the diverse approaches to tackling climate crises across Southeast Asia. The conference emphasized the pivotal role of universities as hubs of knowledge production, bridging theoretical frameworks with practical actions to combat climate change effectively.
Additionally, the opportunity to engage in cross-national discussions with other esteemed delegates expanded their professional networks, fostering potential collaborations aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This enriching experience not only underscored the regional commitment to addressing climate challenges but also reinforced Mae Fah Luang University's dedication to advancing innovative solutions and fostering resilience in the face of global environmental crises.
