Calls for the SEA-UK GEDI Challenge Grant

SEAMEO RIHED and the British Council are excited to announce the launch of the SEA-UK Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (GEDI) Challenge Grant, an initiative to tackle GEDI related issues in HEIs in Southeast Asia, leading to evidence-based decision making for the sustainable future of higher education and to establish a cross-cultural GEDI network between the UK and Southeast Asian higher education institutions. This initiative is part of the broader project on Strengthening Leadership with Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (GEDI) in Higher Education Institutions in Southeast Asia.

The SEA-UK GEDI Challenge Grant provides funding of up to £60,000 to support up to four research projects, with each selected proposal receiving a maximum of £15,000.

Key Objectives
Funded research projects will contribute to achieving one or more of the following goals:

• Developing frameworks and gender-disaggregated data to measure GEDI progress in the region.
• Conducting comparative reviews and analyses of GEDI policies at the national and institutional levels.
• Mainstreaming GEDI into curricula and learning
• Enhancing community engagement to amplify GEDI’s impact in higher education institutions.
• Supporting career progression and leadership pathways for women and individuals from diverse genders, ethnicities, abilities, and backgrounds in higher education

Expected Outputs
Each project is expected to deliver:

• A research paper presenting key findings (full report).
• A concise policy document with recommendations (1-2 pages).
• An infographic summarizing the findings.
• A presentation of findings at the Final Stakeholder Forum for Phase II of the GEDI Project, scheduled for August 2025.

Important Details

• Deadline for Applications: 26 January 2025, 23:59 p.m. (Thailand time)
• Funding Limit: Up to £15,000 per project.
• Eligibility: Open to 35 higher education institutions in Southeast Asia participating in the GEDI project and the higher education institutions in the UK (see details of Eligible insitutions in the Grant Application Guideline)
