Liaison Students for the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting

    On 5-8 March 2019, Mae Fah Luang University students participated as student liaisons in the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting 2019 which was held at the Riverie by Katathani Hotel, Chiang Rai.

    The ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in Chiang Rai was a meeting discussing issues regarding strengthening ASEAN community building, especially the way forward to drive concrete deliverables under this year’s theme of Advancing Partnership for Sustainability.

     During the event, the eight selected students liaised and interacted with the officers from the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in welcoming the guests at the airport, checking in at the hotel as well as facilitating a working dinner for ASEAN Senior Officials and assisting the meeting registration.  They also facilitated and assisted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officers in organising the Advancing Partnership for Sustainability Exhibition at Central Plaza Chiang Rai and a visit to Tham Luang-Khun Nam Nang Non Forest Park.

      Ms. Saruta Srichoosin, a third year student of the International Development programme, the School of Social Innovation, said, "It was such an incredible experience to work with many professional officials. I had a chance to help the officials arrange the events at Central Plaza and Tham Luang-Khun Nam Nang Non Forest Park. I gained not only new experiences but also the inspiration from the officials. It gave me an idea about my future career in the international environment."

   Additionally, Ms. Porntree Khongtabaek, a fourth year student of the Logistic and Supply Chain Management programme, the School of Management said, "During those four days, I had a chance to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I was impressed by their organisational culture, workflow and staff members. They shared their experience and gave me new knowledge that can become my inspiration to succeed."

    Altogether, MFU has always encouraged students to seize an opportunity to enhance their confidence, communication skills, teamwork, problem solving and cross-cultural awareness through participating in international activities and exchange programmes. All necessary skills and real work experience will prepare them for working happily and efficiently in global environments.
