Bhutan Education Fair 2017

          Lecturer from the School of Liberal Arts at MFU, Ms. Palden Wangmo and Administrative Officer of International Affairs Division, Ms. Yaowapa Phoemphul visited Bhutan to participate in the Bhutan Education Fair 2017 from 24 – 28 March 2017.

          The Bhutan Education Fair was organized by The Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) at Changlimithang stadium parking in Thimphu. This year, 57 local and foreign universities and colleges from many countries including India, Bhutan, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal, Australia, and Thailand participated in the education fair and showcased their education offering.

          Over 200 participants including parents, teachers and students were interested in Mae Fah Luang University and requested a relevant and updated information on university which included events, open days, programmes offering for international students, as well as a partial scholarship to Bhutanese student who has strong academic backgrounds to excel in their area of study at MFU. Most Bhutanese students were interested in the programmes of Medicine, Nursing and Dentistry.

          In addition, MFU representatives visited the Department of Adult and Higher Education (DAHE) at the Ministry of Education Thimphu to meet Chief Programme Officer of the Scholarship Division, Mr. Baburam Sherpa to promote the programmes which met the Royal Civil Service Commission’s interest especially in agricultural area. Then, representatives of MFU visited the Youth and Welfare Education Office of Gyalpol Zimpon to provide an information of the scholarship and all programmes to Scholarship Officer, His Majesty’s secretariat, Mr.Leki Wangpo.

          Moreover, MFU representatives also visited four higher secondary schools including Drukgyel Higher Secondary School (DHSS), Shari Higher Secondary School, Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School and Motithang Higher Secondary School to promote and publicize Mae Fah Luang University, facilitates, and programmes to the Bhutanese principals, teachers and more than 800 students.//////////////

          Furthermore, there was a discussion of academic cooperation between MFU representatives and International Programmes Adviser of the Development and External Relations Department at the Royal Thimphu College (RTC), Associate Lecturer Ms. Lindsay Kamakahi. Both institutions aimed to extend and strengthen their relations as well as further academic collaborations in student and staff exchanges.

          The overall of the exhibition and the visit to schools was a great success as shown by the positive feedback received from the Bhutanese parents and students. The visit to Bhutan was a good opportunity to help Bhutanese students find the better choice for their education and future careers as well.
