MoU for Reducing Child Drowning Deaths

An agreement for providing swimming lessons for children in the Chiang Rai province was signed by MFU Vice President Assoc. Prof. Gp. Capt. Yutana Tra-ngan and Secretary General of Thailand Swimming Association Mr. Thanavit Thosakulon 19 March 2017. This agreement seeks to decrease the drowning rates of children (aged under 15) by teaching children about water safety and swimming.

Assoc. Prof. Gp. Capt. Yutana stated that every year, hundreds of children, aged 0-15 years, die from drowning. In 2016, drowning ranked higher than Dengue hemorrhagic fever(DHF) among the leading causes of unintentional injury deaths for Thai children. For this reason, MFU and Thailand Swimming Association will provide swimming lessons sponsored by various organisations for 500 children. This agreement is expected to have the concrete outcomes that will prevent and reduce the rate of child drowning deaths.
